Vuyisa Xipu

Der 26-jährige Tenor Vuyisa Xipu ist Absolvent der Universität Kapstadt, wo er ein Diplom in Darstellender Kunst erwarb. Erste Bühnenerfahrung sammelte er 2019 als Chormitglied in »I Capuleti e i Montecchi«. Im Jahr 2022 übernahm er erste solistische Partien und sang die Rolle des Zachary Macaulay in »Sarah Baartman: The Opera« von Hendrick Hofmeyr sowie den Oronte in Händels »Alcina«. Im folgenden Jahr übernahm er die Rollen des Frantz in Offenbachs »Hoffmanns Erzählungen« und des Gastone in Verdis »La traviata«. Vuyisa wurde 2024 zum Gewinner des FoCTO-Wettbewerbs gekürt. Im selben Jahr war er in der Rolle des Elmelik in Donizettis »Dalinda« zu erleben und übernahm zudem die Rolle des Peter Quint in Brittens »The Turn of the Screw«. Er erreichte 2024 das Viertelfinale bei zwei großen internationalen Wettbewerben: dem 42. Internationalen Hans-Gabor-Belvedere-Gesangswettbewerb in Lettland und dem Internationalen Gesangswettbewerb »Neue Stimmen« in Deutschland. Zuletzt, im Jahr 2025, coverte Vuyisa die Partie des Nemorino in »L’elisir d’amore« an der Garsington Opera, wo er auch im Chor mitwirkte. Auch an der Garsington-Produktion von »Pique Dame« war er beteiligt. Derzeit ist Vuyisa Mitglied des »Emerging Artists«-Programms der Mascarade Opera.
In der Spielzeit 2026.27 ist er als Andres, Frantz, Cochenille und Pitichinnaccio in »Hoffmanns Erzählugnen« am Hessischen Staatstheater Wiesbaden zu sehen; als Zweitbesetzung für die Rolle des Zopiro in Piccinnis Oper »Zenobia« am Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari; sowie als Tenorsolist in »Carmina Burana« am Nationaltheater Mannheim und später mit dem Göttinger Symphonieorchester.

Vuyisa Xipu, 26-year-old tenor, is a graduate of the University of Cape Town, where he earned a Diploma in Performance. His stage experience began as a chorus member in I Capuleti e i Montecchi in 2019. In 2022, he performed the role of Zachary Macaulay in Sarah Baartman: The Opera by Hendrick Hofmeyr, as well as Oronte in Händel’s Alcina. The following year, he took on the roles of Frantz in Offenbach’s The Tales of Hoffmann and Gastone in Verdi’s La Traviata. Vuyisa was named the winner of the FoCTO Competition in 2024. That same year, he appeared as Elmelik and sang in the chorus of Donizetti’s Dalinda, while also performing the role of Peter Quint in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw. He was a quarter-finalist in two major international competitions in 2024: the 42nd International Hans Gabor Belvedere Singing Competition in Latvia and the Neue Stimmen International Singing Competition in Germany. Most recently, in 2025, Vuyisa covered the role of Nemorino in L’elisir d’amore at Garsington Opera, where he also participated in the chorus for that production, alongside The Queen of Spades. Vuyisa is currently a member of Mascarade Opera’s Emerging Artists programme.
For the 2026/27 season he can be seen performing Andres, Frantz, Cochenille und Pitichinnacchio in Les Contes d’Hoffmann at Hessisches Staatstheater Wiesbaden; covering the role of Zopiro in Piccinni’s opera Zenobia at Teatro Petruzzelli in Bari; and as Tenor Solo in Carmina Burana at Nationaltheater Mannheim and later with the Göttinger Symphonieorchester.
