Mit ihren beiden langjährigen Serien »Just in Time« und »Künstlerinnen erfinden« haben deufert&plischke an vielen Orten weltweit Menschen aktiv in ihre kreativen Prozesse mit einbezogen. In dem Tanzbriefeprojekt »Just in Time« versammeln sich nicht nur viele persönliche Tanzerinnerungen als immaterielles Erbe, sondern diese werden auch in Ballrooms vor Ort gleich auf die Bühne gebracht. In der Serie »Künstlerinnen erfinden« imaginiert eine heterogene Gruppe eine Künstlerin, die es nicht gab, aber hätte geben können / müssen. Beide Projekte zeichnen sich durch eine starke Internationalität und gleichzeitig lokale Verankerung aus.
With their two long-running series, ‘Just in Time’ and ‘Inventing (Female) Artists’, deufert&plischke have actively involved people from around the world in their creative processes. In the dance-letter project ‘Just in Time’, numerous personal dance memories are collected as intangible heritage and are brought directly to the stage in local ballrooms. In the series ‘Künstlerinnen erfinden’ (Inventing (Female) Artists), a heterogeneous group collectively imagines a (female) artist who never existed, but could – or should – have. Both projects are characterized by a strong international outlook while remaining deeply rooted in the local contexts where they take place.
Dr. Kattrin Deufert und Thomas Plischke arbeiten seit 2001 als Künstlerduo deufert&plischke an der Schnittstelle von Tanz, Gesellschaft und Medien. Ihre Arbeiten entstehen mittels Choreografie, Fotografie, Text und Video sind unbedingte Bekenntnisse zum partizipativen Prozess. Ihre Performances und transdisziplinären Werke stellen die Hierarchie zwischen Kunstschaffenden und Publikum in Frage und erschaffen neue Räume, in denen Platz bleibt für die Imagination der Beteiligten. Dabei reicht die Bandbreite von der long durational performance im Galerieraum über bis zur kollektiven Erfindung einer Künstlerin in einer Kleinstadt oder gleich mit einem ganzen Dorf. Mit der Spinnerei Schwelm gründeten sie 2020 im ländlichen Raum bei Wuppertal einen Ort für zeitgenössische Kunst und arbeiten mit ihren beiden Kindern Moritz und Simon als Künstlerfamilie. Zuletzt hatte ihr Stück »Ballroom Bliss« im Schauspielhaus Wuppertal Premiere, das nun nach Johannesburg und Oulu reist.
Dr. Kattrin Deufert and Thomas Plischke have been collaborating as artist duo deufert&plischke since 2001, operating at the intersection of dance, society, and media. Their works – emerging through choreography, photography, text, and video – are uncompromising commitments to participatory processes. Their performances and transdisciplinary projects challenge the hierarchy between artists and audiences and create new spaces that leave room for the participants’ imagination. Their artistic range extends from long durational performances in gallery spaces to the collective invention of a (female) artist in a small town – or even with an entire village. In 2020, they founded Spinnerei Schwelm, a space for contemporary art in a rural area near Wuppertal, and now work together with their two children, Moritz and Simon, as an artist family. Most recently, their piece ‘Ballroom Bliss’ premiered at Schauspielhaus Wuppertal and is now touring to Johannesburg and Oulu.
