Mannheimer Mozartsommer (Mannheim’s Summer of Mozart)

It was on a smooth midsummer’s afternoon in July of 1763 when Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and his sister first impressed Elector Carl Theodor with the enchanting sounds of his music in the castle of Schwetzingen near Mannheim.
Nearly a quarter-millennium later, the National Theatre of Mannheim will celebrate with a festival that commemorates Mozart’s life and work in a new and exceptional way.
Our programme embraces concerts and performances that critically and provocatively encompass musical comedy and Opera Seria, humor and specific adaptations, as well as contemporary comments, all of which are our own productions presented by highly skilled artists.
Visitors will also enjoy art installations, summer soirees, a relaxing park program fit for the entire family, artist interviews with the protagonists of the festival, as well as summary introductions of productions.
Our Scholarship program “MozartPrisma” awards recipients with free visits to performances or rehearsals, brief chats with the artists, workshops, lectures and additional courses which complement the introduction to Mozart’s lifework in a critical and sustainable manner.

The next Mannheimer Mozartsommer will take place  in summer 2012.
