The roots of our theatre reach back to the early 19th century when Mozart and Schiller’s works laid the foundation of our continuing inspiration. The National Theatre of Mannheim bridges the gap between the tradition of German theatrical and musical background with the development of modern art.
The National Theatre of Mannheim, with its four branches which are directed by Regula Gerber, is the core of the city’s cultural life. We offer a unique cultural experience which can be appreciated throughout our alternating annual festivals, “Schillertage” and “Mozartsommer.”
As a result of outstanding artistic achievements, several world premieres, first releases, and last but not least, an excellent system of youth participation, the National Theatre of Mannheim is considered one of Germany’s most prestigious and important stages.
1000 plays are performed each year for more than 320,000 visitors, as well as heavy prominence in the local media, account for our considerable reputation.
Each season we are proud to offer a daily varying schedule with roughly 45 premieres and 55 renewed performances within four branches: opera, drama, ballet and our youth theatres “Schnawwl” and “Junge Oper”.
